The Hills Were Alive

Some ninety-five masters swimmers competed in the Tualatin Hills Long Course Meters meet in Oregon this past weekend including four adventurous folks from Puget Sound Masters. So, who were these four brave souls? They were all TWIMmers, of course!!!

Jenny “The Fearless” Ferries, “Father Tom” FT Fritschen, Carl “MC” Haynie, and Thomas “COB” Walker swam their hearts out in a somewhat aged – but still glorious – indoor 50 meter pool that is the Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center in Beaverton.

The first event of the weekend was the 200 back, and all three guys crushed it. Father Tom and MC both took nearly 5 seconds off their respective seed times to log their personal bests. Carl’s swim set a PNA record while Father Tom won his heat and received a badge for it!

COB tackled the 50 fly next and nailed it, taking 13 seconds off his seed time! He is especially proud of his 100 breast, however, and you could see why as he took oodles of time off that, as well!

Father Tom put in another stellar performance in the 200 free bettering his seed time by some 3 seconds!

Jenny celebrated her birthday on Saturday with family but both she and FT swam on Sunday.  And did Jenny earn her nickname or what when she powered through the 200 IM followed close behind by the 50 breast. This author was particularly impressed by her sub-40 50 fly split!  Asked about that, she quipped “The fly felt horrible!! The rest actually felt pretty good”.

When does the fly NOT feel horrible unless your initials are MP?

Long Live TWIM!
