Last Splash and TWIMFest 2024

Members of TWIM gathered around Lake Meridian last Saturday for the annual Last Splash of Summer open water race and to partake in TWIMFest 2024, our annual meeting of the membership.

Seven of us competed in the open water event prior to TWIMFest, namely Alison Eliason, Carl Haynie, Kathy (with daughter Abby!) Pelham, Valerie Thompson, Dan Underbrink, and Kelly Vikstrom.

The competitors

Alison, Kathy and Abby braved the 65 degree water for 1 mile, no wetsuit, while Carl and Valerie basked in their wetsuits for the same distance.

Kelly and Dan each tackled the 2 mile event with a wetsuit. The 2 mile race amounted to 4 times around the course!

Dan survives 2 miles just fine!

We each did exceptionally well, of course, particularly those of us who lacked anyone else in our age groups 🙂

Carl sports his reward gift

Even before the event started, Dan was quick to erect our TWIM tent on prime real estate overlooking the course and race.

Following Last Splash and after accepting our awards, we gathered near the tent for some potluck and great conversation. Joining us for the festivities were Steve Fogg, Vic Pace (who also helped swimmers out of the water: thank you, again, Vic!), Mary Underbrink, Terry Risdon, and Colleen Wahlstrom.

It was another wonderful time among friends. Thank you, Blue Wave Aquatics, for putting on another great event!
