August will be a busy month of pool swimming, especially for TWIMmers Maoz, Zena, Kathy, Betsey, Carl, and the two Toms! Who are we missing? Let us know…
Very soon, TWIM Warriors, Maoz Alsberg, Zena Courtney, and Kathy Pelham will be vying for glory August 2-6 at the 2017 USMS Summer National Championship in lovely Minneapolis Minnesota, the land of 1000 lakes!
And during the same time, Betsey “The Machine” Kassen will be competing in the 5K Postal on Aug 5th at South Kitsap!
First up, Kathy will be our own Ledecky to watch in the 1500m Free on Wednesday, Aug 2nd, while Zena follows her in the 50m Back, 50m Free, 200m Back, and 200 Free Aug 4th, 5th, and 6th. Maoz will chase down the competition in the 50m Back and 100m Free on Aug 4 and in the 50m Free Aug 5th.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the pond, Carl “MC” Hit Man Haynie travels to Budapest, Hungary to compete in the 2017 FINA World Masters Championships where pool swimming takes place there Aug 14-20. He will be competing against the best of the best in the 50m, 100m, and 200m Backstroke, the 200 IM, and the 100m Breaststroke.
Held every two years, this year’s championships again follow the FINA World Championships going on right now in the same venue. This year, FINA expects to break the record for largest Masters meet ever. Soak it all in, MC, and good luck!!
Finally, later this month – August 25-27 – Betsey “The Machine” Kassen, Father Tom and your beloved COB plan to swim in the 2017 Gil Young Memorial/NW Zone LCM Championship Meet at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham Oregon to keep up our annual tradition! Anyone else?
