Oldies But Goodies – TWIM Sweeps Senior Games

Last Sunday the TWIM Senior Contingent, consisting of Betsey “The Machine” Kassen, Carl MC “Hit Man” Haynie, Father Tom Fritschen “The Swimming Priest”, and your own beloved COB competed in the 2017 Washington State Senior Games. Led by our ever wonderful (and young!) Coach Heather Shields, we took this meet by storm at the Briggs YMCA in the charming little hamlet known as Olympia!

There was fantastic swimming and there were medals galore for TWIM. For starters, Betsey went 4 for 4, with State Records in the 500 Free, 200 Free, 50 Fly and 100 IM. Way to Rock it, Machine!

Mr. Haynie turned in his usual championship performance, with state records in the 200 Back and the 200 Fly. That’s right, Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls – Don’t get too close to the microphone, sonny – the 200 Fly, and he swam it at the end of the competition!!!  He also wrapped up 4 golds.

Father Tom powered to Gold Medals in the 50, 100, and 200 Back (Ryan Lochte move over) plus a Silver in the 100 Free and Bronze in the 200 Free! Before the day was done, FT swam six events!

Mr. Walker was also awash in the flash of metallic glory as he too medalled in all of his 5 events, the 100 Breast, 50 Free, 50 Breast, 50 Fly and 50 Back, coming home with Gold in the 50 Fly!

All in all, not a bad day for a bunch of old folks!

Hail TWIM Long Live!
