2025 USMS Summer Nationals
Dan Underbrink reports from Federal Way on Day 2 of the USMS Summer Nationals – Continuing with a Bang!
Greetings, TWIM, from Day Two of the USMS Summer Nationals!
Sixteen of your fellow TWIM teammates competed at Nationals today, and I must say that I saw a lot of smiles at being in fast water and with great friends! This meet is exciting, and I wish you all could be here to experience it!
After morning warm-ups, the day started with the 200 Breaststroke. This is considered a tough event by many, but seven TWIM Champions stepped up and swam it! These were Jonathon Banks, Keri Falkner, Ruben Guerrero, Kerry Ness, David Scott, Dan Underbrink, and Joseph Shelly. Medals were awarded to Jonathon (9th), Keri (6th), Ruben (3rd), David (4th), Dan (10th), and Joseph (4th).
The second event of the day was the 50 Backstroke. These TWIM Sprinters absolutely tore up the pool! Maoz Alsberg, Carl Haynie, Katy Stuart, Atsuko Takahashi, and Joseph Shelly. Medals were awarded to these TWIM Champions: Maoz (3rd), Carl (1st), Atsuko (10th), and Joseph (10th).
The 100 Freestyle attracted these TWIM Competitors: Brent Barnes, Emily Castillo, Keri Falkner, Holly Lickwala, David Scott, Katy Stuart, Atsuko Takahashi, Mary Underbrink, and Joseph Shelly. Medals were won by Atsuko (7th), Holly (5th), and Keri (6th).
TWIM Contenders in the Men’s 200 Medley Relay swam as members of the Puget Sound Masters Regional Club. We got to swim with friends and new acquaintances from other workout groups within PSM. TWIM was represented in these relays by Greg Walsh, Dan Underbrink, Graham Anderson, Carl Haynie, David Scott, and Jonathon Banks. Medals in the Men’s Relay went to: Greg (3rd), Dan (7th), Graham (8th), Carl (1st), and Dave (1st).
In the Women’s 200 Medley Relay, TWIM was represented by the following Superstars: Keri Falkner, Holly Lickwala, Katy Stuart, and Emily Castillo. Medals were earned by: Keri (5th), Holly (2nd), Katy (4th), and Emily (5th).
Relays earn massive team points, so thanks to all relay participants for stepping up. Our significant participation is sure to propel PSM to the top position at this great Nationals meet!
Finally, Dan Underbrink rounded out the day as the sole TWIM Competitor in the 400 IM and came home with a sixth-place medal!
Much hardware earned today, TWIM! I counted 23 medals for the day! Be sure to pick those up in the Awards Room.
TWIM is such an amazing group of friendly supportive athletes. I am proud to be a member of such an outstanding Team! Looking forward to Day 3!
