USMS Summer Nationals
Reporting on Day 1 from the pool is our hard working President, Dan Underbrink. Thanks Dan!
Greetings, TWIM Champions,
The Nationals Torch is lit atop the TWIM Tower and the time to come and give our ALL in the pool has begun!
This is your Day One Report about TWIM at Nationals.
The USMS Summer Nationals Welcome Banner on the 10-meter platform.

Today featured the 1500-meter Freestyle and TWIM had one swimmer, Mr. Jonathon Banks. Jonathon swam his race, faster than his seed time, and walked away with a seventh-place medal! Congratulations, Jonathon! Besides swimming today, Jonathon also supported the swim community, and the Nationals meet, by performing Safety Marshall duties for a couple of hours.

Other TWIM members were present today as well. Some were volunteering, while others were just checking in a day early and just breathing in some of the Nationals Atmosphere, the day before they begin racing.
The first TWIMmer I saw there was Keri Faulkner, who stopped by to get in a warm-up swim in the Nationals Pool, before heading to work. It was so early, I didn’t have my photography brain engaged yet, so I don’t have a picture of her there, but don’t worry; we will see Keri in many events this week!
Emily Castillo came down and volunteered all morning as a Safety Marshall. Thank you, Emily, for supporting our Nationals meet! Without Safety Marshalls, the Meet Director would be unable to start the meet.

While the 1500 and some excellent Marshalling were going on, TWIM’s Brent Barnes was there as an Official for the day. Thanks to Brent for that support. It takes a lot of people to properly run a meet, and you will see many officials in the coming days, helping to move the meet along, in an orderly (and fair) fashion. Brent will join the rest of TWIM as a swimmer in the coming days.

Other TWIMmers came by the pool to get checked in a day early and to check out the Nationals scene. Kerry Ness, Dave Scott, and Graham Anderson were all checking out the scene.

Dan Underbrink counted laps for Jonathon and others and engaged in many organizational activities associated with being a part of the Nationals Planning Committee. Dan also put together a Tourism Table, in the front lobby of the pool facility, which seems to be pretty popular with the 800+ out-of-town guests.

Dan also had a discussion with USMS Head Coach, Bill Brenner, about future USMS Coach Certification activity in our area.

I’m looking forward to seeing many of you over the next several days. When you arrive and get checked in, if your day allows, please consider stopping by the volunteer table and volunteering as a Deck Safety Marshall, a runner, a timer, or in some other job. TWIM is also responsible for that Tourism Table, so you could help out there, if nothing else fits your schedule.
Looking forward to Day Two!
Dan
