Five TWIM Seniors Show How We Get it Done in Anacortes!

February 2, 2019 proved to be another great swim day, when five TWIMmers reported to Fidalgo Pool in Anacortes, and once again, showed our pool prowess to the rest of the field. It was definitely a Senior-oriented meet for TWIM, with Dan Underbrink swimming as the “team youngster” at age 63. This meet was Short Course Meters, so end-of-year ages were used.

Five TWIM members participated with Val Thompson and Betsey Kassen reigning in the Women’s events; and for the Men, we had Scott Neuhaus in his first TWIM meet, as well as Tom Walker and Dan Underbrink.

Val swam an impressive group of events: the 50-, 100-, 200-, and 400-Meter Freestyle, as well as the 100-Meter IM. She posted great times in all events. Val, we love your enthusiasm!

Betsey was dominant in her age group with a first place in every event she swam. It was not an easy schedule either. She wowed us in the 200- and 400-Meter Freestyle, and also in the 200- and 400-Meter IM races.

Scott, in his first time swimming for TWIM, posted SIX first place finishes. He swam in the 50- and 100-Meter Freestyle events, the 50-, 100-, and 200-Meter Breaststroke, and finally the 100-Meter IM. Way to go Scott!

Thomas showed us his stuff in the 50-, 100-, and 200-Meter Breaststroke, and also in the 100- and 200-Meter IM races. A great showing, Tom! You are an inspiration to us all with your enthusiasm for this great sport of ours!

Dan swam the 400-Meter IM, the 100- and 200-Meter Backstroke, the 200-Meter Breaststroke, and the 400-Meter Freestyle. For a 6th event he attempted the 50-Meter Butterfly, proving once again that he is not endowed with ANY fast-twitch muscle fiber.

TWIM (with only 5 swimmers) placed 5th overall in this meet. This was a great showing against a bunch of larger teams. The home team, Thunderbirds, had 22 swimmers, and powerhouse WWU brought 16 swimmers. Our other competition was BAM, with 9 swimmers, SWYM with 8 swimmers, and YPKC with 6 swimmers.
