No Rest for TWIMMERS this Summer!

Our band of intrepid reporters are constantly beating the bushes, pools, and open water for news of glorious summertime TWIM finishes. This reporter recently caught wind of two TWIMMERs who excelled.

Father Tom (“FT”) Fritschen cleaned up in two pool meets in June and early July while Emily Castillo showed off her swimming prowess during the Eastside Sprint Triathlon on June 30th.

Summertime pool meets can be hard to come by, but FT found two! The Summer Solstice Swim Meet in Spokane June 22-24 and the Starlight Open in Wenatchee July 6-8. Both were outdoor long course meets and dual-sanctioned which means you swim with the kids! FT won nothing but blue ribbons in his age group…okay, so he was the only one in his age group, but we won’t mention that.

His proudest achievements came in the 50m free in Spokane and the 400m free in Wenatchee. In the 50, FT won his heat against the young folk. Yes, that is a rubber ducky prize perched on his hat! In Wenatchee, he swam a personal best time in the 400 by over 16 seconds! Way to go, FT!

On June 30th, Emily competed in the Eastside Sprint Triathlon at Lake Sammamish State Park. Over 300 competitors showed up for this year’s event which involved a 1/2 mile swim, 14.8 mile bike, and 3 mile run.

In the Open Sprint category, Emily was third out of the water in her age group with a swim time of 14:34.6.  Or to put it more succinctly, that’s 3rd out of 21 competitors in her age group! Her overall time was 1:55.14.4. Way to sprint it, Emily!

Coming up, we have the 99th Annual Senior Seattle Open at Colman Pool July 12-14 (another dual-sanctioned affair with the kids!) where Vince “V-Man” Carmosino and Thomas “COB” Walker will be competing. Then, of course, there’s the Fat Salmon 3.2 mile swim in Lake Washington on Saturday, July 14th. Several TWIMMers are entered. Stay tuned!

Go TWIM!
