Day 3

2025 USMS Summer Nationals

Dan Underbrink reports from Federal Way on Day 3 of the USMS Summer Nationals – More medals!

Greetings from TWIM Nationals Headquarters!

Today was day three of the USMS Summer Nationals in Federal Way. And what a day it was! Like yesterday, sixteen of your fellow TWIM Athletes gave their best efforts on the blocks! Isn’t that what we do?

Before getting into the details of today, please allow me to digress, and correct a slight error from yesterday’s report. It seems that Meet Mobile does not have an entirely accurate report of all of the relays swum. Jonathon was in a Medley Relay, and received a 5th place medal, but it is not shown in the app. That brings yesterday’s TWIM medal count to 24!

Now, back to day three! Today is Friday, but our week is not over yet. There are still two days of competition to go!

Friday’s events included the 200 Butterfly, the 50 Breaststroke, the 100 Backstroke, the Men’s and Women’s 200 Freestyle Relays, and the 400 Freestyle.

Who was there? Well, let’s have a look!

(l to r) Greg Walsh, Jonathon Banks, Holly Lickwala, Brent Barnes, Brad Jones, and Carl Haynie – a great group of TWIM champions!

Greg swam the 50 Breast, medalling with a 9th place finish, and also medalled (5th) in the Men’s 200 Free Relay.
Jonathon swam in the 50 Breast.
Holly medalled (3rd) in the 200 Butterfly.
Brent swam in the 50 Breast.
Brad swam in the 200 Free Relay. And he nabbed a 6th place medal in the 400 Free.
Carl swam in the 100 Back and received a 3rd place medal. Carl’s 50 Back finish yesterday broke a PNA record! Congrats, Carl! Carl broke that record by 1/100th of a second!

Holly’s 200 Fly. What a powerhouse!
Jonathon Banks, Holly Lickwala, Dave Scott, and Graham Anderson

Jonathon and Dave both swam the 50 Breast, Holly the 200 Fly, and Graham the 400 Free.

There may have been another MEET Mobile relay glitch. There are indications that Dave and Brad swam in the Men’s 200 Free Relay, but no results so far.

Keri Falkner and Katy Stuart

News flash! Yesterday, Keri broke a long-standing PNA Record in the 200 Breast. Not only did she break the 1995 record, she smashed it! Congratulations, Keri! Today, she swam in the 100 Back and received a 6th place medal.

Katy also swam in the 100 back, as well as the Women’s 200 Free Relay, nabbing a 7th place medal.

Bill swam in the 50 Breast today.

Maoz Alsberg

Maoz took a 5th place medal in the 100 back and a 4th place medal in the 200 Free. Swimming Maoz-strong! It’s a thing!

Brent Barnes and Ruben Gurrero

Ruben captured a 5th place medal in the 50 Breast.

Steve Schwartz

Steve swam the 400 Free and medalled (8th).

Camera-shy today was Kerry Ness, who swam the 50 Breast and Dan Underbrink, who took a 5th place medal in the Men’s 200 Free Relay.

Here are a few more fun pictures from today’s festivities!

Greg, also readying for the 100 Breast

We also had some great volunteers, helping out at the meet today. Emily Castillo did not swim today, but she put in several hours as a Safety Marshall. Safety Marshalls on deck is one requirement for the meet to be able to go forward. Thank you Emily!

Mr. Steve Schwartz also put in volunteer hours, helping out in the Hospitality area, before his swim today. Thank you, Steve!

There may have been others who volunteered throughout the day. Thanks to any and all who are helping these Nationals go forward!

13 more TWIM medals today (maybe 15 after that relay gets resolved!). So much pride in this Team. Your character and performances in the pool are just amazing! Thanks to all for being part of this adventure!
