Brent and Holly Light It Up in California!

The Dynamic Duo Rock it For Real at Walnut Creek!

You would think that there is already plenty of sunshine down California way, but Brent and Holly added their own brand of light as they came, swam and conquered at the Kerry O’Brien Short Course Meters Championships at Heather Farm Park’s beautiful Clarke Swim Center in Walnut Creek this past weekend, October 15-17th. The meet was hosted by the mighty Walnut Creek Masters. For those of you who may not know, Kerry O’Brien is a truly legendary figure in Masters swimming who has dedicated the last several decades of his life to building an immensely successful program there. He is also one prodigious Butterflyer!

Brent and Holly have always exemplified the core of our Credo, which is to embrace every opportunity to get up on the blocks and give it our all, for ourselves and our teammates.  I think they’re the ones who actually wrote it! They have represented us at so many meets at so many pools in so many places and we are all incredibly proud of them!

Ah yes, the Blocks! Aren’t they symbolic of life itself? Seems like they call us to summon the courage to step up in that given moment when destiny beckons and to just roll, Baby, roll, here and now, once and for all…

And now for Holly’s report:

“Saturday was such a gorgeous day in Walnut Creek!  While the morning, with warm-up starting at 7 am, a bit chilly at 49 degrees, and clear skies, quickly warmed up to the 80’s.  The meet had 364 individual entrants, but it never felt crowded with the 6 lane SCM competition pool and just steps away from a 20 lane cool-down pool.  We were able to set up on a beautiful spot in the grass, having views of both pools.  Saturday events for Brent were 50 breast (6th at 41.21), 100 breast (4th 1:31.77), and 100 free (6th 1:26.03).  His starts looked great at this meet!  Events for me were 50 breast (1st 40.68), 100 breast (1st 1:28.56), 800 free (1st 11:18.83), and 400 free (1st 5:38.36).  Wonderful day at the pool!

Then…..Mother Nature stepped in and blew in a rain/windstorm for Sunday competition.  Great news for the Bay Area in a severe drought situation, but it left us needing to take an early flight back home due to looming delays.  So, no competition for us on Sunday.  We had such a great time on Saturday so could not be too sad about the situation.  We met so many great people and had the opportunity to share food with a 26-year-old at her first Masters meet.  We love to swim, but the relationships we get to make are amazing!”

Yes indeed, Holly, we do love to swim and the relationships we have made with each other and so many others in the global Masters swimming community are always a source of joy and inspiration! And thank you both for representing us so very well!
