Every TWIM-mer and family member of a TWIM-mer who competed in this year’s Last Splash at Lake Meridian medaled! How about that?! Last Splash is an open water event put on every year by Blue Wave Aquatics. And it doubles as our annual TWIMFest meeting of the membership.
This year both were held on Saturday, September 20th, with TWIMFest following the Last Splash awards ceremony.
The teamwork of Eric Durban, Wendy Neely, and a flotilla of volunteers was a marvel to see. Many thanks to them and the Zone Three Fire Cadets for putting on another stellar and safe event which included one-mile, two-mile, and 500 yard events for all ages.
Competing at Last Splash this year, in the order shown in the group photo, were Paul McGhee (with wife Janet, not pictured), Valerie Thompson, Carl Haynie, Mary Underbrink, Dan Underbrink, Kelly Vikstrom, Maoz Alsberg, and Katy Stuart and her daughter Ellinor. Sitting with us was friend of TWIM, Steve Peterson, who also competed.
Attending the TWIMFest portion, or those family members who helped run the events, were Colleen Wahlstrom, Steve Fogg, and Valerie’s husband, Vic Pace (not pictured above).
The business portion of this year’s TWIMFest included the election of President, Vice President, and Secretary to new 3-year terms. Congratulations and thanks to Dan Underbrink, Steve Fogg, and Kathy Pelham for carrying on the torch again. And a special thank you to Colleen Wahlstrom who took care of all the election matters!
Last but certainly not least, we all reminisced and traded stories about Tom Walker who departed us way too soon. We miss you, Tom.
