Fearless in Snohomish on Nov 5th

Twelve fearless TWIMmers braved the elements on their way to compete in the beautiful Snohomish Aquatic Center. The meet, hosted by Snohomish Aquatic Masters, directed by Rob Serviss, and refereed by Dick Chapman was impeccably run, keeping close to schedule and whipping out results within minutes of each race.

It was a delight to swim in such a beautiful facility that boasts a pristine salt water pool, adjustable starting blocks, ample space for seating, and individual showers in their spotless changing rooms.

Our warriors came together to compete in two groups for each of two relays.

Event 1 Mixed 200 Medley Relay

TWIM “A” rocked the 200 medley relay with the fastest time in all age groups! Carl Haynie started an amazing race swimming backstroke, followed by Vince Carmosino (breast), Brad Jones (fly) and Brian Guillen (free), finishing in 1:49.09 and beating the next fastest team by ten seconds!

TWIM “B” also had a great swim. Ben Hohmann led with backstroke, followed by Jenny Hernandez (breast), Erin McPeak (fly), and Father Tom Fritschen (free).

Event 9 Mixed 200 Free Relay

Both of our free relay teams had impressive swims and swam in neighboring lanes. TWIM “A” included Erin McPeak, Brian Guillen, Jenny Hernandez and Ben Hohmann, and finished in 2:12.69. TWIM “B” included Betsey Kassen, Tammy Regan Koppelberger, Tom Walker and Father Tom Fritschen, finishing in 2:21.75.

Several of our TWIMmers placed 1st in their age group for every race in which they competed! Vince swam the 50 free, 50 breast and 100 breast. Brad swam the 100 fly and 50 fly. Betsey swam the 200 free, 50 breast, 500 free and 50 free. Tammy swam the 200 free, 100 free and 500 free, and beat all her seed times by huge margins.

Here are some highlights from the rest of us:

  • Erin finished first in an impressive 6 individual events! These included the 200 free, 200 IM, 100 fly, 50 fly, 500 free and 50 free, totaling 1,100 total yards in individual competition. Don’t forget that she also competed in both relays! Go Erin!!
  • Father Tom had an awesome 100 free race while he wasn’t busy contributing to both relays.
  • Carl’s 50 backstroke was the fastest in all age groups, coming in at :29.16.
  • Brian shaved nearly 3 seconds off his seed time in the 50 free.
  • Jenny H (yours truly) beat all her seed times, minus the 500 free, which she switched up to breast stroke, slowing down 10 seconds because of the change of stroke.
  • Ben beat his seed time in the 50 back by over a second.
  • Brad beat his seed times in both fly events.
  • Valerie swam a variety of races and placed in all her events.
  • Tom Walker made huge gains on his seed times in all his events and placed in all of them as well.

Overall, TWIM had another great showing and had an awesome time competing in this beautiful pool. It was well worth the long drive for many of us through not-so-great weather.

We look forward to another great turnout at the 2017 Puget Sound Masters SCM Championship Meet on Saturday and Sunday, November 18 and 19 in Federal Way.

GO TWIM!!
