As their website accurately describes, “Bremerton’s West Sound Senior Games is not only a fitness program but also an athletic adventure that initiates a healthy life-style for women and men, ages 50 and better.”
But it’s also where herculean accomplishments are born!
Valerie Powell – our own intrepid reporter in the field – was there for the play by play July 11-14 as Laura and Frank (mom and dad) ran, swam, and threw. Yes, you heard us right. Our own Frank Powell competed in not only a 5K race and three swimming events, but he threw the discus, as well!

First up was the 5K run. Both Laura and Frank excelled. They each finished first in their age groups. Congratulations, you two!

In the pool, nothing but gold medal performances continued. Frank won all three of his races on July 13th, namely the 500 free, 200 back, and 50 free. The latter accompanied a blistering 31.67 clocking.

Jump next to the discus throw on July 14th under beautiful blue skies where alien spacecraft can be spied through chain link fences.

Frank, trying something totally new to him, hurled the discus 53 ft, 7 in to win him the Silver. It makes my backstroke arms sore just thinking about it. How did you do that, Frank? Bravo!
Congratulations, Powell family! You make us all proud!
Go TWIM!
