TWIM scored big time yet again on two different weekends recently when they competed in the 2015 3000 meter ePostal National Championsip in beautiful Centralia. The ePostal continues through November 15th.
On Halloween, our distance champions, Betsey “The Machine” Kassen and Tom Fritschen, our beloved Spiritual Advisor, were joined in the water by our own ever- wonderful Coach Heather, who hasn’t swum a Masters workout in about a year!
Coach Heather knocked down 3300 meters in the 25 meter pool! She always comes through when we need the Gold! Why 3300, you ask? Because she turned 33 the previous week, of course!
Brother Tom powered his way through the 1500 meter mile. Rumor has it that directly afterwards he joined the Centralia Masters for 33 birthday 25 meter sprints. After a sumptuous lunch with Betsey , Tammy and support crews, he went on to complete a dry-land workout. Do you think this guy is determined?
Fast forward to Saturday, November 7th at the Centralia pool once again. This time, Tom and our own age group All-Star, Tammy Koppelberger, hammered out exactly 3000 meters. If that wasn’t enough, they both had enough left to sprint the last 50! Our sources tell us that they both could have kept going for another 3000 meters! No holding back guys!
Tammy, a strong and accomplished distance swimmer, kept her splits incredibly even. Brother Fritschen, new to distance swimming, expressed wonder at how GOOD he felt upon completion and loved the long “Swimmers High” he obtained. It is addictive, is it not?
