TWIM Has Been Busy!

It’s been an eventful past month in TWIM land.

Victoria, BC

Hey, the I in TWIM stands for International, right?!

On January 28th, nine Puget Sound Masters – including two from Team Walker (Father Tom and Carl) – ventured north into British Columbia to swim in the annual Victoria Masters Meet (Long Course Meters) on Vancouver Island.

Tom and Carl hit the pool first in the 200m back, and they were glad the event came early in the day. They gave it all they had and came away with best times. Each of them took two seconds off, in fact. Way to go, TWIM!

Carl was next up in the 200 breaststroke and managed to better his seed time by the barest of margins.  Father Tom, meanwhile, sprinted to fast times in both the 50m and 100m free. He logged a best time in the latter – very impressive – as it came near the end of the meet. Way to go, FT!

Anacortes, WA

Just one week later (huff, huff), Betsey, Father Tom, and Carl raced in the Thunderbird Aquatic Masters Meet in Anacortes.

Near as we can tell, Betsey set a new PNA record in the 200m breast – 3:47.20 (65-69). Way to go, Betsey!!!  She also swam her usual “animal-grade” events (400m free, 100m breast, and 200m IM) in grand style.

Father Tom raced in four events and logged a best time in nearly every one of them! He conquered the 400m free, 100m back, 200m back, and 100m IM. Superbly done, FT!!!

Carl swam all of the backstroke events because, well, that’s what he does. He is happiest about his 200 back swim, logging his second best time in that event!

One-Hour ePostal (Jan thru Feb)

After Anacortes, Betsey was not done. Just 5 days later – on February 9th – she swam 4,015 yards in one hour’s time at her home pool in Centralia. While not her best, it was 15 yards farther than last year and the distance would have placed her 3rd nationally had she done that in her new age group. Absolutely fantastic, Betsey. We can’t wait for this year’s results!

Lake Washington Masters is hosting their annual Short Course Yards meet at the Juanita HS pool this coming Sunday, February 19th. Be sure to sign up by this Monday evening for what promises to be another fun event. LWM always pulls out all the stops!
