TWIM at LWM Invitational

Five TWIMmers met at the state of the art Juanita Aquatic Center on Sunday for the highly-anticipated Lake Washington Masters Invitational.

Our ever-helpful coach, Brian, faced insurmountable difficulties with the meet sign up process but managed to join us on deck, fully-clothed, to give his support and undivided attention.

Carl–Manages to beat his previous times nearly every time he swims. We are not sure how he does it but are hoping his abilities are contagious and if we all continue to follow him (Blindly. Like sheep. Baaa….) from meet to meet we will acquire his age-defying swimming talents. He beat his seed times in all his events including 200 Back and 100 IM but most impressively dropped over 10 seconds in 200 Breast.

Vince–When he wasn’t hiding out with the pool noodles and kickboards in the equipment closet, Vince was swimming 50 and 100 Breast making it look absurdly effortless. But then, maybe he envisions how he swam against currents and through masses of jellyfish in the Sound last year and everything else seems a little easier now..?

Maoz–(Big sigh from the writer…) Was voted sandbagger of the year by his peers. After swimming lethargically for months, frequently voicing doubts about his swimming abilities, and estimating seed times as if he was going to swim with only one arm, Maoz swam like a bat out of hell coming within tenths of seconds of his best times in recent years in 50 and 100 Free and 100 IM. Our jaws still hurt from when they dropped on the floor with sheer amazement….

Kathy–Unwilling to let a stupid cold (though not the debilitating Man Cold… ahem… Brian) stop her from swimming, supplemented her breakfast with a (performance enhancing?) cocktail of cold medicine and swam 100, 200, and 500 Free. Although each event left her feeling like a creature from the Walking Dead, she did manage to drop several seconds off her times from last year.
