Fat Salmon Returns!

The annual Fat Salmon swim returned (in person) this past weekend after a 2-year hiatus. It was great to see everyone again and return to that amazing feeling of dread we all get at the start: looking at the tall buildings near the finish that we swim toward and never seem to get closer!

The view from the start. See those tiny buildings far, far, super far away? They’re taller than they appear and we swim just past them.

Two TWIMmers, Carl and Kathy, braved the waters of Lake Washington this year. We almost had 3 but life got in the way for Brad Jones so I drew a picture of him since I’m sure he was with us in spirit.

The water was calm and 71 degrees when 300+ swimmers took off in stages starting at 8:15am.

Carl and I are in here somewhere toward the middle of the bunch

Neither Carl nor I finished in record time but it was really nice to be back in the water again. And then, even better to eat 8776664 homemade cookies and bagels and wash it down with coffee at the end of the race. We both finished 3rd place in our respective age groups which won us fancy commemorative water bottles.

The fancy bottle…

Many thanks to Orca Swim Team and all of the organizers and sponsors for putting on a great race yet again!
