Every swimmer dreams of making the ultimate escape from Alcatraz: a mile long swim from The Rock to the north shore of San Francisco. This past Saturday, TWIMmers Tammy and Jason Koppelberger were there for the start.
We are tickled to report that Tammy won her age group in the wetsuit division with a time of 15:34.1! And Jason was not too far behind.
It should be noted that Mother Nature and the Coast Guard conspired to prevent an actual swim from The Rock this year due to nasty currents. Safety first, after all. So, a mile-long course was quickly constructed along the north shore. The cold waters off San Francisco are not for the faint of heart. The name of the event is even intimidating: Sharkfest!!! But these two mastered the swim and had a blast doing it.
